Leo Burnett Worldwide’s global client takes home highest honor in the creative industry
The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity has named Samsung Electronics as the “Creative Marketer of the Year” for 2016.
“This is the most prestigious award bestowed on a single brand each year, recognizing the brand’s relentless belief in the power of creativity,” said Mark Tutssel, Leo Burnett Worldwide’s chief creative officer and the global creative lead for the Samsung account. “Samsung has emerged a frontrunner with work that best represents the alchemy of creativity and technology, catapulting the industry into the future.”
Today’s honor recognizes the marketer’s past success at the festival. Over the history of the festival, Samsung has received 74 Lions for work across 17 countries. The brand took a massive leap from winning 15 Lions in 2014 to 27 Lions in 2015.
Leo Burnett’s Buenos Aires, Istanbul, Milan and Sydney offices contributed 16 Lions to the haul on behalf of Samsung since 2014.
In 2015, Leo Burnett Buenos Aires’ “Safety Truck” received the coveted Titanium Lion, which recognizes breakthrough ideas that lead the industry in a new direction. In total, the innovative campaign took home seven Lions including three Gold Lions and three Silver Lions. Other Cannes winners that year included Leo Burnett Istanbul’s “Hearing Hands” as well as the Milan team’s “Smart Play-board.”
